New activity at the ranch…
Geocaching

Geocaching is a high tech treasure hunt that gives friends and family a chance to explore our woods and landmarks around Brown County. You and your group will use a handheld GPS unit to lead you to the site of a hidden cache. This cache can be as small as a 35 mm film case or as large as a shoe box.
What is in a cache? A cache usually holds a couple of items. The first is the log book, which tells you who found it before you. Most people will sign the book and leave a little not for those who will find it next. It can also hold different little trinkets. The rule is that if you take something, you have to leave something.
If you are lucky, you will find a travel bug or geo coin. These little items have tracking codes that allow you to sign on the Web and find where they originated. A bug could begin its journey in Rhode Island and end up sitting in California waiting for the next leg of its journey. Keep in mind that once you have found a bug or coin, you are responsible for moving it to the next cache and leaving it behind for those who will find it next.
Rawhide is now renting GPS units for half-day or full-day adventures. Once you have rented your unit (or brought your own) we will give you the coordinates to our own little cache run. This cache will help you to learn how the GPS works and wet your appetite. Once you have a good feel for geocaching, we have coordinates for several of caches throughout the county.
$15 half-day rental
$25 full-day rental
